Bakas Pilipinas held a successful Benefit Concert at The Philippine Center, Fifth Avenue, New York City on November 13, 2018. Traditional Filipino Kundiman love songs were performed by celebrated singers: Soprano Ruby Topacio-Bernales, Tenor Rogelio “Jun” Penaverde Jr, and Baritone Marvin Gayatgay.
Consul General Claro Cristobal gave a warm welcome to the audience. Ms. Angeline Quirona, Bakas Pilipinas officer, served as Master of Ceremonies. Bakas Pilipinas President Roz Li gave a presentation about the organization’s activities and projects.
Honoree for the event was Kinding Sindaw, a not-for-profit folk dance troupe that nurtures and preserves the intangible culture and heritage of Mindanao. Accepting the award was Ms. Potri Ranka Manis, founder and artistic creator of Kinding Sindaw.
